The COVID-19 vaccine response demonstrated that fast-tracked research development is possible to accelerate the implementation of solutions to benefit society while assuring safety and good outcomes. For the 3rdepisode of the WHC Podcast series, Thomas CueniDirector General of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations, shares light on vaccine management during a global pandemic. He further emphasized how the collaboration between government and pharmaceutical companies is different for the COVID-19 vaccines.

Thomas Cueni will be speaking in the upcoming 44th World Hospital Congress on 8-11 November in Barcelona. He will be participating in the session Accelerating research, development, and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine: Lessons learned from Key Stakeholders” along with other experts.”. This session will also explore the drivers and constraints for such an agile and good response to the crisis, as well as the key learnings that can be gleaned from the different stakeholders for the near future.

Thomas Cueni is the Director-General of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations – the global association of pharmaceutical research companies and Secretary of the global Biopharmaceutical CEO Roundtable. He was instrumental in creating the AMR Action Fund, a ground-breaking partnership that has raised nearly $1 billion to bring 2-4 new antibiotics to patients by 2030. He also Chairs the Business at OECD Health Committee and the Board of the cross-sectoral AMR Industry Alliance.
